Wall 508
Wall 508 was changed from a soldier pile wall with tiebacks to a PCRS wall. The wall was up to 22 feet high and was constructed on a steep existing slope. Some of the design and construction challenges included large freight train surcharge loading (4 Cooper E80 loaded train tracks), a large 72-inch diameter existing sewer in front of the wall, several drainage penetrations, and very difficult drilling conditions.
The PCRS wall consisted of a 2-piece horizontal and vertical counterfort system with up to 3 tiers. Wall 508 was approximately 2,700 feet long for a total of 30,000 square feet of retaining wall.
